The rights, beliefs, and freedoms of nonbelievers are just as important as those of the religious faithful. We should strive for—we should demand—a world where the ability to live and think freely is available to everyone.
It's a remarkably straightforward premise, but it seems like there's a new example almost every day of some powerful figure who doesn't (or pointedly chooses not to) get it. The willingness to privilege religion and feeling over science and reason—in academia, and in the world at-large—remains the default position for far too many.
